How to Pray Isha Salah

Isha Salah is the night prayer performed by Muslims after sunset and before midnight. It consists of four Rakat (units of prayer) and is one of the five daily prayers in Islam. Here are the steps for an individual praying Isha Salah:

  1. Make Wudu (Ablution): Begin by performing ablution correctly, washing your face, hands, arms, head, and feet as prescribed in Islam.

  2. Select a Clean Prayer Space: Choose a clean and quiet area where you can perform Salah without distractions, facing the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca (the Qibla).

  3. Make Intention (Niyyah): In your heart, make the intention to perform the four Rakat of Isha Salah.

  4. Begin with Takbir al-Ihram: Raise your hands to your ears, saying "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest), and place your right hand over your left hand on your chest or stomach.

  5. Recite Opening Supplication (Dua al-Istiftah): Silently recite the opening supplication:

"Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, wa tabarakasmuka, wa ta'ala jadduka, wa la ilaha ghayruk."

  6. Recite Surah Al-Fatiha and Additional Verses: In the first two Rakat, recite Surah Al-Fatiha aloud, followed by another Surah or verses from the Quran. In the third and fourth Rakat, recite Surah Al-Fatiha silently.

  7. Perform Ruku (Bowing): Say "Allahu Akbar" and bow down, placing your hands on your knees and keeping your back straight. Recite "Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem" (Glory is to my Lord, the Most Great) three times.

  8. Stand Up from Ruku: Rise from the bowing position while saying "Sami'Allahu liman hamidah" (Allah hears those who praise Him). Follow with "Rabbana lakal hamd" (Our Lord, to You is due all praise).

  9. Perform Sujood (Prostration): Say "Allahu Akbar" and prostrate, placing your forehead, nose, palms, knees, and toes on the ground. Recite "Subhana Rabbiyal A'la" (Glory is to my Lord, the Most High) three times.

  10. Sit Between the Two Sujood: Sit up from the prostration saying "Allahu Akbar" and recite "Rabbighfir li" (O my Lord, forgive me) or another supplication.

  11. Second Sujood: Perform the second prostration, repeating "Subhana Rabbiyal A'la" three times.

  12. Tashahhud (Sitting for Testimony): After completing the second Rakat, sit and recite the Tashahhud:

"At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibatu, As-salamu 'alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. As-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadillahis-salihin. Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluh."

  13. Finish the Salah: After the Tashahhud, recite Salat Ibrahimiyyah and any additional supplications. Then, turn your head to the right saying "Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah" and to the left repeating the same, concluding the Salah.
